Psychotherapy, Medication Management and Assessment Services for Emerging Adults, College Students and Young Professionals

The years following high school, whether or not they include university and professional school, are a foundational crucible for most. On your own for the first time, balancing finding your place in the world, the demands of classes, work, and relationships, establishing an independent identity, and figuring out what your future holds — all in one of the world's largest cities. It's a lot to manage, but you don't have to do it alone.

Bryant West Psychology specializes in comprehensive mental health services, including psychotherapy (individual, couples/family and group), medication management, and psychological assessment therapy for emerging adults, including college students and young professionals in New York City. Whether you’re seeking in-person help at our Midtown office, or prefer the flexibility of telehealth sessions from anywhere in New York State (and for some clinicians, New Jersey), our experienced clinicians are here to help you reach your mental health goals.

Mental Health Concerns We Help Young Adults With

Young adulthood, or “adulting,” comes with unique challenges, but you have options for support. At Bryant West Psychology, we help young adults deal with depression, anxiety, disordered eating, substance misuse, sexuality and gender concerns, and loneliness and intimacy as well as the complex tasks emerging from families in which there may have been abuse or neglect, as well as excessive control or emotional entanglement - all of this while also trying to establish your independent identity, as well as manage finding work and a career, as well as academic pressure, make important decisions about majors, graduate school, or career paths, and cope with feelings such as imposter syndrome and perfectionism. We understand how challenging meeting high expectations can lead to severe anxiety, overwhelm, burnout, despair, or over reliance on substances.

In addition to psychotherapy, we offer psychiatric consultations and medication management for issues such as anxiety, depression, and attention difficulties. If you’re unsure about a diagnosis or need documentation for academic accommodations, our team provides comprehensive psychological, learning disabilities, and ADHD assessments.

Our approach is nonjudgmental and collaborative — we work with you to explore patterns related to identity, belonging, and body image, as well as the impact of comparing yourself to your peers. If you're struggling with stress, trouble sleeping, or feeling overwhelmed, our psychotherapists for young adults offer practical strategies, an understanding of your unique challenges emerging from your particular family, and, when appropriate, medical interventions - all to improve your current functioning and maximize your likelihood of fulfillment as an adult.

Your challenges do not define you. We'll build on your strengths and help you develop tools for resilience, self-understanding, and meaningful growth as you move forward.

Our Approach to Mental Health for Young Professionals and College Students

Treatment is most effective when it's a joint effort tailored to your journey. After your initial in-person consultation, you'll collaborate with your clinician — whether a therapist, a psychiatrist, or an assessment specialist — to set clear goals and map out patterns that are holding you back.

Our sessions are a safe space to build practical skills, from emotional regulation and time and energy boundaries to effective communication and self-advocacy. If medication may be helpful, our psychiatric providers will work with you to find the right approach, coordinating closely with your therapist as needed.

Real change happens inside and outside therapy, which is why we encourage small, manageable experiments between sessions. Trying a new way to approach feedback, practicing assertive communication with a roommate or professor, or testing a new study or work routine can help you gain confidence and see progress.

Our personalized and evidence-based approach focuses on practical support for decisions and transitions, including choosing or changing majors, applying to internships or jobs, moving housing, or navigating identity shifts. We can also help you manage the stress of networking, handle feedback constructively, and build routines that support your well-being — such as improving sleep, incorporating movement, and structuring your work or study time - and working on balancing your social and emotional needs as well as professional demands.

Psychiatric Care for College Students and Young Professionals

If you're struggling with persistent anxiety, depression, sleep issues, or difficulty focusing, psychiatric care may be an invaluable addition to your support system. At Bryant West Psychology, our psychiatric providers work seamlessly with your therapy team to help you access the full spectrum of care. Whether you’re exploring medication for the first time or reassessing an existing treatment plan, our board-certified psychiatrists and psychiatric nurse practitioners offer compassionate, individualized consultations.

Our psychiatric providers take the time to tailor recommendations to your needs based on your history and current conditions. Medication is not a one-size-fits-all solution. We always consider your preferences, values, and goals and make sure you understand the potential benefits and side effects. If you decide to pursue medication, your provider will closely monitor your progress and adjust your plan as your needs change. We’re here to support you in regaining stability, energy, and clarity — so you can focus on what matters most in this important season of your life.

Comprehensive Psychological and ADHD Assessment Services

Sometimes the biggest barrier to growth is uncertainty — feeling unsure if what you’re experiencing is “normal,” or wondering whether a diagnosis might help you access the right treatment and resources. Our comprehensive assessment services are designed to bring clarity, direction, and practical guidance for whatever you’re facing.

Whether you’re struggling with attention difficulties, academic performance, emotional challenges, or questions about learning style, our assessment team provides in-depth learning and ADHD evaluations guided by the latest research and best practices. You’ll meet with an experienced clinician who will listen carefully to your concerns, select the appropriate evidence-based testing tools, and interpret your results within the context of your lived experience.

The outcome is more than just a label. You’ll receive a thorough written report, along with actionable recommendations to help you move forward — whether that means documentation for academic accommodations, guidance for treatment options, or strategies for building on your strengths. Our assessment process is confidential, supportive, and uniquely tailored to the challenges emerging adults, college students and young professionals often face.

Our Care Access Options

Support is accessible — wherever you are and however you need it. We offer flexible ways to connect, including in-person individual and group therapy sessions at our Midtown Manhattan office, and secure telehealth throughout New York State and in New Jersey with select practitioners. Most psychological assessment and prescriptions for certain psychiatric prescriptions can only be obtained in person.

We are In-Network with Aetna insurance and student health plans for Columbia, NYU, The New School, snd Fordham. We currently do not accept Medicare or Medicaid. If your insurance is out of network or you are not using insurance, we offer alternative payment options, including a sliding scale.
