A Look Into Our Manhattan Psychiatric Services
Medication management is available as a stand-alone service, or you can also avail yourself of the full range of psychotherapies available at Bryant West Psychology. Our psychotherapists and psychiatrists collaborate closely with you, so we all work together as a team. Team You!
Sharing the same chart allows us easy access to collaborate in your care, targeting emotional regulation, symptom relief and increased neuroplasticity. Specifically, we follow these steps with our coordinated care services to facilitate change and promote well-being:
Initial Consultation
At the start of treatment, you will meet with your psychiatrist to review your current symptoms and your history of emotional development. During this one-on-one time, you can share your story and provide your goals for treatment. Your psychiatrist will closely collaborate with you (and your therapist) to provide treatment alternatives and recommendations, including psychotherapy, behavioral strategies and indicated psychiatric medication.
As with all of your sessions at Bryant West Psychology, this is a time to ask any questions you may have so that you are clear on the “whys and wherefores” of your treatment plan.
Ongoing Medication Management
You and your psychiatrist will agree on how often you will meet and for what length of time. Certain medications (like those for ADHD) require more frequent in-person sessions — your psychiatrist will inform you of such details. Your psychiatrist will guide you through how to use your medications most effectively and safely.
During your follow-up medication management visits, you and your psychiatrist will discuss how well the medication is working, how to manage side effects, and make any adjustments to your medication regimen and overall treatment plan. Our goal through this collaboration is to find the right medication and dosage to help you feel your best while minimizing potential risks and side effects.
Moving On With Life
While some psychiatric conditions are chronic and require extended care, many are time-limited or episodic. You will work closely with your provider to determine whether you have reached a point of stability that allows for less frequent sessions or whether the conditions that brought you to treatment have resolved, allowing you to come off of medications in a supervised manner. You will determine with your therapist if you no longer need care — or only need to periodically check in with your providers.
Why Choose Bryant West Psychology for New York Psychiatric Services?
At Bryant West Psychology, we facilitate and provide coordinated care between psychiatric and psychotherapy services. Research has found that combining medication management and psychotherapy yields more positive and lasting outcomes for many conditions. When clinicians work as a team, we believe we can create a synergy to your benefit!
Our dedicated psychiatrists are experienced and well-trained and choose to work in a practice committed to their professional growth and support. They will provide individualized, careful attention, develop care plans and suggest services aimed at helping you reach your treatment goals. At Bryant West Psychology, our psychiatrists know that their well-being matters and will tell you that your well-being does indeed matter, too.
Given the high burden of costs in mental health care, our psychiatrists are in-network with Aetna Insurance (and its affiliates) along with the student health plans of Columbia, NYU, New School, Fordham, FIT and Pratt. We will work with you around the cost of care and adjust fees to consider your needs (and our own) if you have out-of-network benefits or have to pay out of pocket. We will submit most of the billing to your insurance company on your behalf.
