I am a clinical psychology post-doctoral fellow at Bryant West Psychology available online (NYS) and in person (Midtown West NYC). I work with children, adolescents and adults in individual, couples, and group psychotherapy. My work includes those who suffer from depression, anxiety, trauma-related challenges, relationship difficulties, uncertainty and conflict around identity, and conflict within the parent-child relationship. I have a special interest in helping university-age and early career adults, those facing the challenges of being of minority status, particularly Asian and Asian-American individuals, and those navigating what it means to be a man in our complex society.

I work from a psychodynamic perspective - I believe in the importance of exploring early childhood experiences and the way those experiences have shaped the way we understand ourselves and others. A significant part of my work is the exploration and valuing of emotions. I believe that much of what we suffer from or get stuck on is rooted in avoidance of overwhelmingly painful or disturbing feelings. My role is to accompany and support you as you make contact with these feelings and the messages they carry. Connecting with these feelings reduces internal conflict, helps you act on the things that are important to you, and allows you to act more authentically in relationships.

I firmly believe that the relationship between provider and patient is a crucial ingredient to successful therapy. I welcome patients to share how they feel throughout therapy. The more we talk about misunderstandings, the more we learn.

I completed my doctorate in Clinical Psychology at Rutgers University Graduate School of Applied and Professional Psychology, where I was trained in psychodynamic and cognitive behavioral therapies. My pre-doctoral internship was completed at the Albany Psychology Internship Consortium.

I developed my style by treating individuals, couples, and groups in outpatient therapy clinics. This has included working with specialty populations, including parents and children in school-based clinics and a specialty clinic for children and adolescents. I have also treated veterans with post-traumatic stress disorder related to combat trauma and military sexual trauma. I have co-led interpersonal process groups, including one for survivors of trauma.

In addition to my work in outpatient settings, I also have experience stabilizing individuals on an inpatient psychiatric unit, which provides me with a background in identifying and triaging serious mental illness. Lastly, I have experience working in hospitals and primary care settings alongside psychiatrists and other medical professionals. I learn something new from everyone who I work with – I am excited to learn from you, too. I am available for in-person and virtual appointments. If you are curious to hear more, please reach out. I hope to hear from you soon.
