Hello, I'm Dr. Sowmya Kshtriya, a New York Licensed Clinical Psychologist, working with individuals 18 yrs and older in person in Midtown West, as well as online across New York State. My work focuses mainly on those struggling with anxiety, depression, as well as relational and social trauma, current or past.  I am adept at helping those with relationship challenges, self-esteem and self-assertion, loneliness, diffuse despair and navigating the issues of being multi-cultural. I am experienced and well-trained in working with diversity in terms of race, gender, sexuality and individuals at different developmental stages of life. Whether you have been raised speaking English, Hindi, or Urdu, I can also help you to access experiences, feeling states, and mentation encoded in those languages to the benefit of our work together.

I use a holistic, integrative, person-centered, and trauma-informed approach, interweaving evidence-based interventions with somatic consciousness (also known as somatic work, often quite helpful in trauma). Together, we will start by learning about your history, developmental experiences, resilience factors, and past and current influences on your life journey as we move toward meeting your treatment goals. Our work will be collaborative and I strive to create a warm, safe, supportive, and positive environment where I can support you in cultivating self-knowledge and self-awareness, a greater sense of empowerment, agency and authenticity, safety and hope, to take on life’s joys and challenges long after our work has ended.

My postdoctoral training was at Columbia University and I earned my doctorate from Montclair State University. As an Adjunct Faculty at Columbia University, I also teach personality psychology to graduate-level students. I have worked with individuals with serious mental illness, psychosis, incarceration, adverse childhood experiences, trauma, mood disorders, adjustment disorders, personality disorders, and medically-induced mental health disorders. These invaluable experiences have taught me a great deal, increased my expertise in addressing the wide range of ways we suffer as human beings, and have prepared me well for the work I am now doing at Bryant West Psychology.

Please reach out to me so we can begin your journey to greater mental health and a more fulfilling life, less burdened by symptoms of distress. I'd be honored to support you in creating meaningful change in your life.
