Hi, I’m Dr. Brendan Krovatin, a New York State licensed clinical psychologist. I provide individual and couples psychotherapy online and in-person to adults of all ages, sexual orientations, and gender identities/expressions. I have extensive training and experience working with adolescents and adults struggling with anxiety, attachment and relationship issues, depression, issues around becoming an adult, trauma in all its complexities, existential questions and concerns, communication difficulties in couples, as well as issues related to male identity, masculinity, and what it means to be a man in modern times. Additionally, my doctoral dissertation research focused on male artists, their creative process, and their struggles with self-definition; artists continue to be an area of clinical interest to me. I primarily work with adults, and particularly enjoy and value my work with emerging adults (18-25) – a pivotal developmental period of growth and self-definition.
I believe that therapy is a unique space to examine our personal stories, our wounds, strengths, and challenges in a space of compassion, curiosity, and creative engagement. In session together, we will work to understand who you are, what’s happening in your life, and how it is impacting you in the short and long term. We will focus on alleviating your symptoms and “difficulties in living” and see how they connect to your past experiences and relationships. As we navigate these feelings, patterns will emerge, and we will work together to help you keep the behaviors that are serving you and change those that are not. Navigating your inner world and struggles can be difficult, and I approach this work with warmth, delicacy, empathy, and occasionally humor to make the work more manageable. I help you to take the ultimate risk of being fully yourself: to express and honor who you are in your daily life, at school or work, among family, in love, and in friendships, and the various roles you embody in your world. We will be partners in this journey – co-creators of a healing therapeutic experience tailored to you.
I have extensive experience treating a broad range of mental health concerns from a psychodynamic and relational framework, integrating multiple treatment modalities, including Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT), and Short-Term Dynamic Psychotherapy (STDPT). I earned my PhD in clinical psychology at the Derner School of Psychology, Adelphi University. I completed my postdoctoral fellowship at Columbia University’s Counseling and Psychological Services and my predoctoral internship at the William Alanson White Institute and Silver Hill Hospital. I received my bachelor's degree with a major in Humanities & Augustinian Studies from Villanova University.
I welcome the opportunity to work together and encourage you to reach out.
