Hello, I’m Matt, a Psychology Postdoctoral Fellow at Bryant West Psychology offering individual and couples therapy to adults and late teens, both online throughout New York State, and in person at our Midtown West offices. I am dedicated to inclusive work and welcome conversations related to sexual orientation, gender identity/expression, race, ethnicity, and religious identity. I have experience working with depression, anxiety, trauma, relationship issues, identity exploration, and difficulties related to health, injury, and illness. If your experiences and struggles do not fit under these neat labels, I’m interested in understanding and helping you with symptoms and challenges that are coming up for you, often hard to define as you move through this world that has become increasingly complex and challenging to our humanity.
In therapy, we will work together to strengthen your awareness and understanding of the thoughts, emotions, and behavior patterns that shape your life. We will consider how these experiences impact you and what can be done to develop new ways of thinking, feeling and responding. My approach focuses on mindfulness, acceptance, and values exploration, drawing as well from cognitive behavioral and relational traditions. Beyond specific techniques, the therapeutic relationship itself is key for healing. I am dedicated to showing up as present, direct, nonjudgmental, and open-minded. I find that therapy is most productive when we can speak openly and honestly each session, and I will encourage you to challenge yourself to do so.
Everyone comes to therapy with different ideas about what it is, what it should be, who it is for, etc. For that reason, I aim to facilitate open conversations about expectations, frustrations, setbacks, and meaningful moments that occur along the way. Our work together will focus on addressing challenges to your mental wellbeing that can be changed, accepting and living with the challenges which cannot, and connecting with what matters most to you.
I have a doctorate from the PAU-Stanford Psy.D. Consortium and trained in various settings throughout graduate school. I worked at the Palo Alto and San Francisco VAs and completed my doctoral internship at the Bronx VA, where I focused on understanding the impact and treatment of trauma. I also spent a year in community mental health at San Jose Job Corps Center where I worked with teens and young adults. I have had valuable experiences working with individuals from diverse backgrounds and with many presenting concerns. These experiences have informed my approach to this work, and I am grateful for continuing opportunities to provide meaningful psychotherapy in NYC.
Please reach out if you are interested in working together, I would be happy to discuss any questions, concerns, or requests that come to mind.
