Hello, my name is Dr. Jordan Hazzard. I provide psychotherapy to people from all walks of life, and have extensive experience working with immigrants, adults who are transitioning through middle age, emerging young professionals, artists, as well as people who experience various forms of psychotic process. My work may be characterized as reflective, spacious, insight-oriented, and emotionally resonant. I view therapy as a healing relationship that helps people to live in a manner that is liberated, authentic, and fulfilling. Generally, I see my patients through many years of their lives, but I also provide brief therapy when appropriate.
I frequently help people with existential concerns, grief, adjustment to disability and chronic illness, depression, anxiety, anger, psychological trauma, including those carrying the lasting effects of abuse. Although every course of therapy is unique, I have found that many people heal within the context of a therapeutic relationship in which they feel as though they can speak candidly about their thoughts and emotions. Much of our psychological pain seems to be associated with difficulties we may face in telling the truth about who we are, what we think and feel, and being embraced for who that may be by significant others in our lives. Therapy is a starting point for all of that. .
For those who are interested in therapeutic modalities, my work is psychoanalytic. I completed post-licensure training in psychoanalysis at The New School for Existential Psychoanalysis. My doctoral education was informed by contemporary relational psychoanalysis, and my clinical training assignments were informed by object relations theory. Prior to beginning doctoral training in psychology, I received clinical training in art therapy. In addition to my work as a psychotherapist, I provide didactic instruction and supervision to psychologists and therapists in training, and I provide psychological evaluation services in medical and forensic settings.
