I am a licensed clinical psychologist in New York and New Jersey who provides individual psychotherapy to older adolescents and adults in English and Korean.  I specialize in treating depression, anxiety, trauma (emotional, physical, and sexual abuse and neglect), relationship difficulties at work, within the family, and socially, as well as stress and trauma related to immigration, racial and ethnic identity, as well as other identity issues. My approach to therapy is integrative, utilizing elements from various modalities, such as psychodynamic therapy, cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), and dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT). I will tailor your treatment to your unique needs and goals.

In our therapeutic journey, my primary aim is to establish a deep and abiding connection of support, compassion, and acceptance, allowing us to delve into areas that might otherwise be too difficult. I will gently encourage you to confront your challenges, explore neglected aspects of your psyche, and liberate yourself from old patterns of behavior that may have once served you but now act as barriers to your growth. I will support you through a healing process, helping you gain a deeper and more compassionate understanding of yourself and your choices. Together, we will establish new meanings, behaviors, and skills to enhance your capacity to navigate the world authentically and freely and access and deepen your inner resilience.

I am from South Korea and moved to the U.S. at age 15. Since then, I have lived a life immersed in diversity, as well as that of being “othered.” I know well the impact of this on the psyche, and can be of great help to you in negotiating and sustaining your sense of self, value, and worth, as well as dignity in the face of marginalization. Our strength and beauty often lie in our diversity and those things that make us different.  At the same time, I recognize that beneath our visible (and hidden) differences, a common thread brings us together, and that is our shared humanity.  I bring this awareness to our therapeutic work.

I received my Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from Adelphi University in 2020. I have trained at college counseling centers throughout NYC - including Baruch College, New York University, and Fordham University.  I also trained at the Adelphi Community Clinic, worked at Beth Israel Hospital, and at the Kessler Institute in New Jersey.

I look forward to the opportunity to work with you.
